Kim, Just wanted to thank you for finally getting me to try quilting. I have always wanted to but felt it was to long of a project and I wouldn’t finish it. I have sewn for years but never had tried a quilt. I have made every mistake and torn out many seams on this one but it is coming out great. I only used two colors and didn’t realize I had reversed the light and dark on 15 of the 32 pinwheels so had to do them over but it was worth it. Can’t wait to see the next steps! I am making mine big enough to be a throw on a sofa. I will be making 3 of them for my girls for Christmas and they will get pillows to match because of the smaller pinwheels I ended up with after trimming.
Is there any chance of you doing the same type blog with a log cabin pattern? I would love to try one.
Thanks for teaching an old girl new tricks.
    Mari

  27. Dannielle Griffin

I haven’t even started yet, but I am going to soon! πŸ™‚

  28. I’m still in. . . just way behind. I’m still getting my pinwheels pieced together. Finding time to work on this project has been more difficult than I anticipated with orders coming in, but I’m still very excited about it! Mine will be bigger as I couldn’t stop find scraps that I thought would be perfect.

    Thanks so much for this!

I’m in and almost caught up. Adding the corner triangles today. In fact, I am waiting for the iron to heat up as I type this. I have thoroughly enjoyed this step-by-step project. I have been quilting for some time, but kinda doing my own thing. Your tutorial opened my eyes to a couple of my BIG mistakes, like not squaring up!!

Thanks for taking the time to post this.

    Pam

    Kim,

Thank you so much for this project! I have always wanted to make a quilt but it was so intimidating. I know I can do it since you have broken it down into steps that are manageable and I have your wonderful photos to follow.

I have just started making my quilt (figuring out what fabrics to use is what has taken me so long!). I have the squares cut and I will sew them together today. I am sorry I don’t have a blog to show my progress. Thank you again! I am so happy to be making this!

  53. Glenda

I am all caught up and ready for the next step…………..Love how this is coming out so far. I am going to tackle a king size quilt for my bed when we complete this. Can’t wait. So easy to do in baby steps……

  54. ok! i am caught up. can’t wait for the next step!!!

  55. I’m embarrassed to say, yes, I’m still in, but no, I haven’t gotten far. Here’s my story…

I bought fabric for my “quilt” and washed it. I took my two year old daughter to her first orthopedic surgeon appointment and was surprised when her surgery was scheduled for four days later. There went to plan to make her the lovely Edith Twirl Skirt for her two year pictures. I quickly scrambled for an alternative wishing all the time that one of you ladies had a local boutique. Before I knew it is was surgery day which was followed by four days in the hospital. Around one week post surgery I pulled out my mom’s (staying with parents in TX until husband is done with tech school in GA) sewing machine to discover the only needle was a size 16 ball point. Now who doesn’t have a collection of regular point needles? My mom. I bought needles and waiting for a chance to get started. In the mean time I decided to oil my mom’s machine so it would be ready for all the miles I was going to put on it. At three weeks post surgery I decided things had settled down enough to start my quilt. I ironed my fabric and cut out my squares. I drew my lines on the light squares then moved to the machine to sew them. …”Mom, do you have more bobbins?” *sigh* “Oh, you might check my sewing kit.” There weren’t bobbins in the sewing kit, but there were needles. Now why didn’t she offer those two weeks ago? Her one bobbin was full of white thread so I moved on to another project so I could use up the bobbin. Yesterday I made a Walmart run where my mom is now the proud owner of four new bobbins. FINALLY, I can start sewing my quilt. BTW, I have yet to post on my blog about this because I’ve had a slow start. However, if I can start sewing on it today then I will post about it this evening.

Now tell me you aren’t slightly humored by all my random diversity? I’m missing my sewing machine more and more each day. *sniff, sniff* We got an email saying our household goods arrived in Guam about four weeks ago.

  56. Cindy

Well, I got caught up and have decided I want to make it a bit bigger too!! So back to the first blog, so I can get more little pinwheels…..some how I will figure out how I should connect the two pieces of pinwheels!!
    Thanks!

  57. lisa Heizenrader

As this is my first quilt I was very frustrated. so I stopped for awhile step 5 i think all those little points didn’t match. will be sewing to catch up thanks

  58. Kei
