If you could have lunch with a celebrity, who would it be with?
Oprah Winfrey

What is the craziest part of your day?
My children are grown and my weekly routine is generally very uneventful. The weekends can get a little crazy sometimes when I have alot planned, running errands, spending time with family and friends, housework, yard work, etc.

What is the most fun part of your day?
One of my favorites times is on weekend mornings when I don’t have anything special planned. I like lounging around in my pajamas for awhile, maybe drinking coffee on my courtyard or just curled up on the sofa.

Why do you love being an author and/or tester? Or what has being an author/tester meant to you?
I’ve been sewing for many years and have always added, changed or redesigned existing patterns. Even though I sell some of the things I make, I wanted to try something to promote my designs in a different way. A friend told me about the website and I decided to give it a try. It was harder than I thought it but I enjoyed the entire process from the idea through the actual steps to take the pictures, writing the instructions, designing the cover and putting it all together. Besides accomplishing a goal to publish something and the joy of seeing the completed product, the timing also meant a lot to me. My twin sister passed away 10 years ago in August and the pattern is named after her.

What is a “life lesson” you have learned over the years?
Your attitude and the way you deal with things is the only thing you really have any control over. The rest is in God’s hands.

If you could step outside your comfort zone and have some kind of “dream job” (maybe you’re already living it??) what would it be?
If I could pick a dream job, I think it would be a free lance photographer. This way I could travel and take pictures. Although I haven’t traveled as much as I would like, I would love to see the world and capture it on film and actually make a living doing it.

What is your favorite book, movie, and/or music?
I have many favorite books: Left Behind Series, The Stand by Stephen King; Kite Runner, A Time to Kill, The Vampire Chronicles by Anne Rice. I like John Grisham and Michael Crichton books also.

When you get “stressed out”, what do you do to get back to center?
When I get stressed out I use prayer to get me back to center.

Mid Morning!!

What is the most fun part of your day?

Why do you love being an author and/or tester? Or what has being an author/tester meant to you?
I love being an author because not only do I get to share and sell my crochet patterns but crochet is my passion…it’s the best of both worlds!

What is a “life lesson” you have learned over the years?
To have more patience and not wish time away.

If you could step outside your comfort zone and have some kind of “dream job” (maybe you’re already living it??) what would it be?
My dream job would be owning a clothing and accessory boutique for adults and children and next door I would have a bead shop and a DIY store where customers could create pottery, ceramics, learn glassblowing jewelry making and needlecrafts….ah! I’d be in heaven!

What is your favorite book, movie, and/or music?
My favorite movies are anything from the 80’s…Dirty Dancing, Sixteen Candles, Pretty in Pink etc..

What is the most fun part of your day?
I like driving the kids home from school – I love hearing what went on, who said what to whom and all that jazz.

Why do you love being an author and/or tester? Or what has being an author/tester meant to you?
I love the idea that people all over the world are sitting there following my instructions to make something pretty for their little Princess! I find that really really amazing!

What is a “life lesson” you have learned over the years?
Just to the best you can, try not to be too hard on yourself and try not to look outwards too much in order to compare yourself or look for praise or acceptance..just try to be the best you can be for yourself and for your family.

If you could step outside your comfort zone and have some kind of “dream job” (maybe you’re already living it??) what would it be?
I used to be a German lecturer and I really really loved that. I think being able to stay home with your kids and make pretty things all day is pretty well perfect for me at the moment.

You cannot please everyone, you just have to be the best person that you know how! Also, there is no such thing as coincidence!

Why do you love being an author and/or tester? Or what has being an author/tester meant to you?
I love being part of such a fun, fresh site. I also love when I see some of my photos featured on the website (from other author’s ebooks), like when my daughter was one of your “covergirls” 🙂

What is a “life lesson” you have learned over the years?
Not to stress to much about things. The minute I “let go” and stop worrying, things seems to fall in place.

If you could step outside your comfort zone and have some kind of “dream job” (maybe you’re already living it??) what would it be?
I’ve started my own children’s photography business in the past few months. This is completely out-of-the box for me since I have a master’s degree in public and international affairs!

Night Time

Be true to yourself.

If you could have lunch with a celebrity, who would it be with?
I would love a lunch date with the whole cast of Seinfeld! They make me laugh no matter how many times I’ve seen an episode.

What is the craziest part of your day?
Without question, the craziest part of the day begins the second my kids walk in from school and continues until the last one is finally sleeping. You all know how it is…homework, preparing dinner, piano practice, baths, reading, saying prayers, and all the bedtime requests–drinks, a snuggle, “one more story”, and on and on! Definitely crazy, but all good!

What is the most fun part of your day?
There’s not just one fun part of the day, but certainly lots of fun moments. Like when I get told a new blonde joke from my teenager, get a sloppy kiss from my three-year old, or get two minutes to myself to sit down and create something that’s been rolling around in my head for a long time.

Why do you love being an author and/or tester? Or what has being an author/tester meant to you?
There are so many day to day things we do: laundry, dishes, cooking, cleaning, etc., some of which don’t take too much creativity to accomplish! I love having an outlet to create and design–and do something that I enjoy doing.

What is a “life lesson” you have learned over the years?
Something I learned while in a college art class has stuck with me over the years. We were given a quote by Auguste Rodin, the artist who created the sculpture of “The Thinker”. He was quoted as saying, “Make it and the idea will come.” Of course that sounded backwards to me when I first heard it, but upon pondering that quote and applying it, it has made great sense to me, and I’ve encorporated it into several aspects of my life. Whenever I’m stuck on coming up with an idea, whether it’s for a talk in church, a lesson plan (I used to teach school years ago), a research paper, a design for one of my stitcheries, and even supper, I think through those words and force myself to just start “making it”. Often the first ideas and drafts are awful, but they are something. It’s magic to me as new ideas generate and become refined from those first ones, and I’m able to create something that I’m finally satisfied and often thrilled with!

If you could step outside your comfort zone and have some kind of “dream job” (maybe you’re already living it??) what would it be?
Wow–a dream job. I would have to say that something involving travel, touring and trying out unique restaurants with my hubby would top my list!
What is your favorite book, movie, and/or music?
I love children’s literature, and end up reading alot of it with my kids. Our latest fun reads are Fablehaven and Leven Thumps. Don’t really have a favorite movie, although I love most everything with Sandra Bullock or Denzel Washington. My favorite music is also an eclectic assortment–a little bit country, a little bit rock, a little bit alternative, and a little bit classical/instrumental.

When you get “stressed out”, what do you do to get back to center?
I have found that the best medicine for me is sleep! I can usually think clearly again after a good nap or a night’s rest.

  1. I love this feature! It is great to find more out about everyone 🙂 By some of the answers I can tell we grew up in the same era lol

  2. Rae

I really enjoyed learning more about these authors. It’s so neat to see that they are amazing, creative and average women just like we all are. I think I would LOVE hanging out with everyone! Can you imagine a girls’ weekend where YCMT authors and crafters hang out in their jammies and craft and chat? Anyone want to volunteer to plan it?? LOL

    Rae 🙂

  3. Amy Kirby

Its great that not only are these awesome patterns they come from people in our crafting community. Its not some random factory. Its neat we can “get to know” everyone. To me when I think crafts I think girl scouts hanging out with a bunch of girls with all the same interests. Its nice to know you can grow up and still get a since of that not matter how busy our lives have gotten we all come to a site and make the same things with our own style and flair.

  4. Heather

I just LOVE reading about the women featured here. It reminds me of how much a like we all are! It’s so much fun reading their response cuz it is so similar to my own views and ideas! I wish we all lived close together so we could have a craft night!
Thanks again YCMT for bringing us closer together!

  5. I love reading the reviews! Very down to earth people who love their KIDS and sharing great tips! Thanks!! Renee

  6. Tina

It’s nice to put a face with the Ebook. I enjoyed reading all the “info” on the authors.

  7. I would totally love to have lunch with Oprah! I am such a big fan of all of these ladies and it’s so nice to put a face with a name with their pictures shown!

  8. Brenda

I think it’s great to hear from others who share the same everyday challenges that I do. It’s nice to know that you’re “not alone” when things start to get you down. At the same time I’m hoping some of their creativity flows my way!!!

  9. Heather B

I totally understand some of what these ladies are saying…mornings are the craziest times here as well. I am impressed that these are “normal” women but they still find time to put out such awesome ebooks

  10. Wow! I identified so much with all of them! It is great to know that such creative people have crazy dinner times too yet still find a way to focus and calm down and get their crafting on!

  11. Pam

I can totally relate to these gals… I know every line to Sixteen Candles – I always said that if I had a boy, I was going to name him Jake Ryan! I love They Might Be Giants! Getting two girls out the door to pre-school is pretty challenging – and ours doesn’t start until 8:30! I can just imagine how much worse it will get when they have to go in earlier. Some day I’d love to open up my own boutique or maybe design fabric (then maybe I’d get a discount! Ha!) Thanks for sharing with us!

  12. Tiffany

It is so refreshing to know that crazy days don’t just belong to my family! I enjoyed reading about the dream jobs and what to do when stressed out. Thank you to all of you who participated and shared a little of yourselves with us. Tiffany

  13. I, too, love this feature! I already know Nanette from Nanoo Designs but still love reading her responses! Hello, Nanette! And it was great getting to know the other authors through their responses.

  14. Lisa

It was nice to see these women are just like me, doing crafts they love. I could relate more with Cree and how she said her favorite part of the day is pickingg her children up from school. I love picking my preschooler up and listening to the songs they sang at school and her telling me all about her day. I also love that Cree said being a stay at home mom is perfect. That is exactly how I feel.

  15. Debbie

I just love reading about other ladies who have the same dreams, struggles, and happy times as myself! It is so wonderful to “meet” so many talented ladies! What would we do without YCMT??? :o)

  16. Sandi

Not that I wish it upon anyone, but it is nice to see that there are other people out there who things get crazy for. I like to see the different ideas for time to themselves and getting back on track after those crazy times.

  17. theresa

I really liked putting a face to the author/designer Dainty Designs! I have purchased just about ebook she has put up on YCMT and I totally admire her! Her answers to YCMT’s questions prove that she’s a down to earth, hard working, creative person.
As for the other talented designers……their words sound like we’re all in the same boat of mommies! lol 🙂 Love the topic and I look forward to hearing more about the authors/designers! 🙂

  18. Melissa Boclair

I like Sheli comment that she learned in College about ” Make it and will come to you” . I am finding with the different projects I have made from the site- that as I make items- I become braver and branch out more from the actual project.

  19. leapinlilies

I love getting to see the faces of the authors. So many people we meet on the web aren’t faceless, putting a face with a name makes them seem more real. 🙂

    I LOVE Dirty Dancing, too!

  20. It was nice to get to know some of the designers better. Thanks for sharing.

    -Andre’a

  21. Patty M.

Wow- I really enjoyed learning more about these authors. It’s amazing to me to realize that their lives are so full, yet they make the time to create and share such wonderful designs! I am inspired and realize there is no excuse for me not getting more sewing time in!!!

  25. holly

thank you so much for letting me “get to know” a little bit about these ladies! how cool is that? i can so relate with sleep being the remedy for stres………must be why my mother is always saying to me, “you’re gonna sleep your life away.” LOL

  26. I enjoy learning about the designers of some of my favorite patterns. I was shocked when Cree answered that she would have lunch with Sherlock Holmes. He would be my choice also.

  27. Elizabeth

These women are soooo talented! Thank you for taking the time from your busy lives to create these items and to write the terrific E-books. I really enjoyed reading about all of you.

  28. Ritz Young

I love reading these! It’s great to see the faces behind the Ebooks. And of course it’s great because they can relate to the WAHM situation.

  29. LoralK

It is so nice to put a face to a name! I have purchased alot of Dainty Designs patterns and now I know about the designer. What a great feature! It is nice to see that they are normal moms, women like the rest of us and they inspire me to do more! Thank you!

  30. Jessica

What a great bunch of women! It really is nice to get to know the designers behind the eBooks that we all love. I really identify with Dana’s life lesson….patience is a great quality, and we should be patient with life, enjoy what we have now, and don’t wish it away. I was also inspired by Cree’s life lesson. When I read Emily’s favorite movie and music I had to laugh. What a throw back to my teenage years! Thank you, everyone, for sharing yourselves with us.
